LG Display is developing High Mobility Oxide (HMO) Thin Film Transistor (TFT) backplane technology, which will be used for sixth-generation small and medium-sized OLEDs. Given that Apple is considering HMO as a candidate material for the next-generation low-power backplane to replace Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) TFT, LG Display has initiated technical verification. Industry insiders in South Korea speculate that LG Display's HMO technology may primarily be applied to OLED displays for devices such as the Apple Watch. Additionally, Apple tends to adopt a dual-source or triple-source supply strategy rather than relying on a single exclusive supplier.
