On May 20th, Beijing time, news emerged that May 19th commemorated the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of Apple's retail stores. On this significant day back in 2001, Apple launched its inaugural batch of stores, with Steve Jobs himself guiding the media through a tour of the Tysons Corner outlet. Before dawn on the opening day, around 500 customers had already started queuing up. During their inaugural weekend, the two stores in Virginia and California collectively attracted over 7,700 visitors, racking up sales amounting to $599,000. Apple encountered numerous hurdles when venturing into the brick-and-mortar retail sector, yet Jobs was resolute in preserving complete control over the customer experience. By 2003, Apple's retail operations had started to yield profits, and by 2004, retail revenue had soared to $1.2 billion. Presently, Apple manages over 500 stores across 27 countries worldwide, securing a prominent position in the retail industry in terms of sales. It's worth mentioning that the original Apple store in Tysons Corner reopened its doors in May 2023, and both the Tysons Corner and Glendale Galleria stores continue to operate to this day.
