On May 14, 2026, AMD made an official announcement, revealing that it would extend support for its FSR 4.1 super-resolution technology to encompass older graphics cards within the RX 6000 and RX 7000 series. Specifically, the RX 7000 series will gain compatibility with FSR 4.1 starting in July of the same year, whereas the RX 6000 series will have to wait until the beginning of 2027. FSR 4.1 leverages INT8 precision to ensure compatibility with these older GPUs; however, this comes at the cost of slightly reduced precision and performance when compared to the FP8 version available on the RX 9000 series. It's important to note that this compatibility is strictly limited to super-resolution technology, with frame generation technology remaining a feature exclusive to the RX 9000 series.
