To counter state-sponsored spyware attacks, Google has introduced an 'Intrusion Log Recording' feature in Android 16. This feature is designed for high-risk groups such as government officials, corporate executives, and journalists. It records device activity logs, including USB connections, network behavior, app installations, Bluetooth connections, etc., through the Intrusion Detection API. The logs are backed up to Google Drive with end-to-end encryption, creating a tamper-proof mechanism. Users need to manually activate it in the 'Advanced Protection' settings. The logs are automatically destroyed after 12 months and cannot be manually deleted during this period. Users can download and review the logs or share them with security experts for analysis to prevent data leaks.
