The Indian government has decided to abandon the proposal for mandatory pre-installation of the biometric authentication app Aadhaar on smartphones, following strong opposition from manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung. After review, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology concluded that mandatory pre-installation poses issues related to device security, compatibility, and increased production costs. This marks the sixth attempt by India in two years to implement such a measure, all of which have failed due to industry opposition.
