On April 17, Counterpoint's consulting data revealed that storage prices are poised for a notable surge in the second half of 2025, exerting significant cost pressures on the global smartphone industry, especially on the low-end market segment. It is anticipated that smartphone sales priced below $150 will experience an 11% year-on-year decrease during this period. Considering that the shipments of mid-to-low-end smartphone models are heavily dependent on ODM/IDH (Original Design Manufacturer/Independent Design House) companies, the market downturn triggered by escalating costs will inevitably spill over into the ODM/IDH sector. Counterpoint Research data further indicates that smartphone shipments designed by ODM/IDH firms will witness a 10% year-on-year decline in the second half of 2025, thereby putting an end to two consecutive years of growth.
