On April 17, news emerged that on the 16th, Dubai in the UAE officially inaugurated the world's first-ever integrated air taxi vertiport. This milestone represents a major leap forward in the UAE's ambitious endeavor to construct a cutting-edge and eco-friendly urban transportation network. Positioned adjacent to Dubai International Airport, the vertiport sprawls across roughly 3,100 square meters. It's a four-story edifice featuring two specialized landing pads for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, complemented by ample parking spaces.
The project received strong backing from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, propelling its progress. It's projected to accommodate approximately 170,000 passengers each year. The commercial launch of air taxi services is slated for the end of 2026. As per the blueprint, by the close of 2026, Dubai will boast four vertiports, strategically situated at Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina.
