Digital blogger Digital Chat Station has disclosed that Apple’s upcoming large foldable smartphone might be branded as the iPhone Ultra. Domestic manufacturers are also reportedly exploring large foldable designs, with some tentatively planning to name their new foldable models Ultra as well. These brands are set to compete head-to-head with Apple in terms of screen format, chip performance, and pricing, although the specific manufacturers involved remain undisclosed. Some users speculate that Xiaomi could be among them.
According to the leak, the iPhone Ultra will feature a horizontal book-style inward folding design, boasting a 7.8-inch inner screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 5.5-inch outer screen. It will sport a titanium metal midframe paired with a matte glass back panel, weighing approximately 245 grams. The most significant technological advancement lies in its screen and hinge mechanism. The device will adopt a Samsung-customized LTPO flexible display, complemented by a self-developed liquid metal hinge and a waterdrop-type spiral structure, effectively reducing crease depth to below 0.15mm.
In terms of performance, the iPhone Ultra will be powered by TSMC’s 2nm process A20 Pro chip, featuring 12GB of memory and starting with 512GB of storage. It will house a substantial 5800mAh battery and support 50W wireless fast charging. However, the iPhone Ultra is currently in the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) stage, with key challenges centered on the hinge and battery—two critical components. If these issues are not promptly resolved, the initial batch of shipments may be delayed until December.
