On March 30, U.S. media reported that Japan's Sony Interactive Entertainment had recently announced a price increase for its PS5 series game consoles. This marks the second price adjustment by the company in less than a year. In the U.S. market, the price of the PS5 disc version has risen from $549.99 to $649.99 (approximately RMB 4,498), while the digital edition has climbed from $499.99 to $599.99 (around RMB 4,152). The PS5 Pro model has also seen a significant hike of $150, bringing its total price to $899.99 (roughly RMB 6,228). Sony has confirmed that similar price adjustments have been implemented in the Chinese, Japanese, and European markets as well. Analysts attribute the primary cause of this price surge to the escalating costs of memory components, with a potential contribution from the reduced supply of helium, which could also be driving up production expenses. Should the conflict in the Middle East persist, the scale of these price increases may continue to escalate.
