Recently, tech blogger ETA Prime undertook a cooling system modification for Apple’s MacBook Neo. The simple addition of a copper plate resulted in a remarkable doubling of the gaming frame rate for this fanless laptop, along with an overall performance enhancement of up to 18.6%. The MacBook Neo, powered by an A18 Pro chip, adopts a passive cooling design that ensures silent operation. However, this design makes the chip susceptible to overheating and performance throttling under heavy workloads.

Post-modification, in the game "No Man's Sky," the chip's temperature significantly decreased from 105°C to slightly above 80°C. Concurrently, the average frame rate surged from 30FPS to nearly 60FPS. Moreover, some tech enthusiasts have further optimized the processor's sustained clock speed under high loads, elevating it from 2.3GHz to 3.3GHz through the addition of thermal pads. This adjustment led to a substantial performance increase of nearly 44%.

Nonetheless, it's crucial to acknowledge that such modifications carry inherent risks. They may compromise the laptop's portability and potentially void the warranty. Therefore, individuals considering these enhancements should proceed with caution and weigh the benefits against the potential drawbacks.
