On March 13, 2026, Amazon's drone delivery arm, Prime Air, declared its departure from the Commercial Drone Alliance. The reason cited was a fundamental clash over safety standards, with the alliance's position on crucial safety matters running counter to Prime Air's bedrock safety tenets. Amazon highlighted that its drone 'detect-and-avoid' system had effectively averted risks on two separate occasions throughout more than 70,000 flights. However, the alliance was against mandating this technology as a prerequisite.
