According to a report from tech media outlet 91Mobiles, Samsung has recently disclosed a new patent via the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) platform. This patent unveils an innovative design for a compact foldable smartphone, potentially earmarked for future iterations of the Galaxy Z Flip series. The design retains the classic clamshell folding mechanism, with its standout feature being the incorporation of a small circular cutout on the front of the external display, which could function as a secondary screen. The phone is outfitted with dual cameras positioned in the lower right corner, while the upper section seems to house the primary external display, hinting at the possibility of a dual external display setup. However, the option of featuring only a circular external display cannot be entirely dismissed. Should the design opt solely for a circular external display, it might appear somewhat conservative within the competitive foldable phone market. Presently, the specific purpose of the circular screen remains ambiguous, but enhancing the functionality of the external display and minimizing the necessity for clamshell operations are key development trends for compact foldable smartphones. This design bears a resemblance to the circular external display found on the Huawei P50 Pocket/Pocket 2. Nevertheless, it's important to note that patent designs do not guarantee mass production; they merely offer fresh concepts for Samsung's foldable phone lineup.
