Google's parent company, Alphabet, announced reforms to the Google Play Store, lowering the entry barriers for competitors. Other companies can now open app stores on the Android platform by paying a one-time fee. Developer fees will be reduced from 30% to a minimum of 15%, while fees for subscription services can drop to 10%. The fee adjustments are expected to take effect in June for the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union, with Australia, South Korea, and Japan implementing them by the end of 2026. These reforms aim to address U.S. antitrust lawsuits and comply with new regulatory requirements.
