Overclock.net forum user 'Vinz' modified his ROG RTX 5090 ASTRAL Night God Edition liquid-cooled graphics card by altering shunt resistors and flashing an overclocking BIOS, unlocking the power limit to 2000W. He also modified four 8-pin to 16-pin power cables and installed a Thermal Grizzly WireView detector between the graphics card's 16-pin power connector and the power cable. During full-load operation, the WireView continuously issued alarms, indicating temperatures as high as 124℃ on the power supply side, while only 42℃ on the graphics card side. Since the pin monitoring data on the graphics card was normal, the power cable load was balanced, and the WireView did not feel hot to the touch, he dismissed it as a false alarm and ignored it. The next day, the power connector on the WireView burned out, nearly fusing with the power cable and becoming impossible to remove. Fortunately, the graphics card and power supply connectors were undamaged. Afterward, he switched back to the original power cables and a new detector, and the temperatures returned to normal. Thermal Grizzly initially did not provide after-sales service for the damage caused by this modification, but brand founder Der8auer sent him a brand-new detector.
