Apple has integrated its self-developed 5G modem chip, the C1X, into the iPhone Air series, with the intention of phasing out previously utilized chips like Qualcomm's X75. The C-series modems represent the fruits of a newly established engineering team's labor, following Apple's acquisition of Intel's smartphone modem division. The C1X chip marks a substantial leap in both performance and energy efficiency, boasting speeds double those of its forerunner, the C1, and a commendable 30% decrease in power consumption. Despite the fact that the C1X currently exclusively supports sub-6GHz frequency bands and lacks millimeter-wave technology, it excels in mainstream 5G networks, adeptly catering to the demands of the vast majority of users.
