After seven years of legal battles, Apple achieved a decisive victory on Wednesday against 'patent troll' Optis Wireless in a lawsuit that began in 2019 and concluded in the United States. In 2019, Optis accused Apple of infringing on five of its LTE mobile communication patents. Optis had the upper hand in the first two trials, securing damages of $506 million and $300 million, respectively. However, Apple persisted in appealing and successfully turned the tables in the third trial. Following the victory, Apple issued a strongly-worded statement, thanking the jury for dismissing Optis' false accusations, exposing its business model, and accusing it of attempting to extort hefty compensation.
