While the single-screen display operates as usual, large patches of 'aurora-colored' malfunctions emerge once the device is unfolded. Experts indicate that foldable smartphones lack resistance to low temperatures, with the fundamental cause stemming from the materials and manufacturing processes involved. Flexible OLED screens are constructed from multiple layers of polymer materials, each possessing a glass transition temperature. At low temperatures, these materials transition from a pliable state to a brittle and rigid one, rendering them susceptible to cracking when bent. Moreover, the lubricant within the hinge thickens or even solidifies under cold conditions, heightening the resistance during opening and closing and increasing the probability of damage. Experts advise that when utilizing foldable smartphones in extremely frigid regions, users should ensure they are kept insulated, minimize the frequency of opening and closing them outdoors, and be mindful of buffering temperature differences.
