Apple has rolled out a novel 'Restrict Precise Location' functionality in the iOS 26.3 preview, with a clear focus on bolstering user privacy. Once activated, the cellular network will be limited to accessing only the user's general neighborhood location, as opposed to their exact coordinates. This move effectively curtails the potential for privacy breaches at the outset by diminishing the precision of the data, all the while ensuring that mobile signal integrity, data transfer rates, and the reliability of location-based services—such as emergency calls and navigation—remain uncompromised. Presently, this feature is exclusive to the iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, and iPad Pro (M5) Wi-Fi + Cellular variants, all of which must incorporate Apple's proprietary baseband chip. Furthermore, its availability is currently confined to select regions, encompassing the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Thailand.
