On January 23, 2026, Solos, a U.S.-based smart glasses company, made a significant legal move by announcing that it had initiated a lawsuit in court. The suit alleges that Meta, along with its partner EssilorLuxottica, has infringed upon multiple core patents pertaining to smart glasses technology. Solos is demanding billions of dollars in compensation for the alleged infringement and has petitioned the court to issue an injunction. This injunction aims to halt Meta's continued sales of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses line.

Solos specifically highlighted that Meta's Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer Gen 1 smart glasses infringe on its patents. These patents cover a range of advanced technologies, including voice control, real-time translation, audio interaction, and AI integration. Notably, all these technologies are already incorporated into Solos' own AirGo A5 glasses.

Moreover, Solos has leveled accusations against Meta, claiming that the tech giant obtained its trade secrets through its partners. One such partner is Oakley, a subsidiary of EssilorLuxottica, which had access to Solos' technology as far back as 2015. Additionally, Solos pointed to an MIT scholar who had conducted in-depth research on Solos' products and subsequently joined Meta as a product manager. Solos suspects that this individual may have brought relevant technical knowledge into Meta, potentially contributing to the alleged infringement.

As of now, both Meta and EssilorLuxottica have not issued any public statements in response to these allegations.
