On January 22, Reuters disclosed that, according to court filings, Apple has petitioned an Indian court to prevent the nation's antitrust authority from acquiring its worldwide financial records amid an inquiry into App Store policies. This move comes as Apple is contesting the legitimacy of the pertinent laws. Currently, Apple is entangled in a legal tussle with the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The CCI has charged Apple with exploiting its dominant market position, an allegation that Apple vehemently refutes. Apple is apprehensive that if fines are computed based on its global revenue, it might be slapped with penalties amounting to as much as $38 billion. Apple has already initiated legal proceedings concerning the 2024 fine regulations, and the matter is still pending adjudication. Meanwhile, the CCI is forging ahead with its investigation and has demanded that Apple furnish financial details. Apple has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking a halt to the investigation, arguing that being compelled to comply would undermine the essence of its primary legal objection. Conversely, the CCI asserts that the regulations are indispensable, and the Delhi High Court is set to deliberate on the case on January 27.
