Meta has revealed that it will cease providing Horizon Workrooms as an independent application from February 16, 2026. Additionally, starting February 20, the company will halt the sales of Meta Quest headsets and Meta Horizon hosting services to enterprises. This move follows closely on the heels of a significant round of layoffs at Reality Labs. It underscores Zuckerberg's recalibration of the strategic direction for the 'metaverse' concept. Mobile devices and smart glasses have now emerged as the new focal points for development, with the VR sector being relegated to a lower priority. Earlier, Meta had already shuttered several VR game studios. While the company hasn't entirely abandoned the 'metaverse' vision, its strategy has pivoted towards mobile devices. Meta is advising users to transition to alternative apps to substitute for Horizon Workrooms and has clarified that relevant data will be purged. Existing clients of Meta Horizon hosting services will retain access until January 4, 2030. Post-February 16, 2026, the pertinent licenses will be offered free of charge.
