Google has announced that starting from 2026, the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) will adjust its source code release frequency from four times a year to twice a year, with releases concentrated in the second and fourth quarters. This move aims to enhance platform stability, streamline the development process, reduce the burden of maintaining multiple branches, and ensure code quality and security. Google emphasized that its support for AOSP remains unchanged, with security patches still being released independently on a monthly basis. An announcement has been made on the AOSP official website, recommending developers to switch to the android-latest-release branch for development.
