According to a recent macOS security report published by the security firm Jamf Threat Labs, the malware situation on macOS is deteriorating at an alarming rate. Historically, the relatively limited number of Mac users meant that hackers had little incentive to target the platform, which in turn fostered the perception that macOS was comparatively secure. However, as Mac's market share continues to expand, it has emerged as a prime target for hacker exploitation. The report highlights a staggering 28% surge in information-stealing malware, making it the predominant threat on the macOS platform and constituting 28.36% of all identified malware. Furthermore, 32% of organizations possess at least one device riddled with critical vulnerabilities, and there has been a notable uptick in phishing scams and zero-day attacks. Jamf Threat Labs underscores the necessity for both corporate and individual users to stay on high alert and implement robust security measures. This includes exercising caution when installing applications, activating two-factor authentication, and promptly updating systems to counter the escalating security threats on macOS.
