Market research firm Counterpoint recently lowered its forecast for global smartphone shipments in 2026, projecting a 2.1% year-on-year decline instead of the previously expected rough stability. The core factor driving this shift is a shortage of memory chips, leading to increased costs and reduced production capacity. Counterpoint noted that, affected by an overall 10% to 25% increase in the cost of electronic components, the global average selling price of smartphones is expected to rise by 6.9% next year. The price hike pressure is anticipated to persist at least until the second quarter of 2026.
