Recently, prototype collector Kosutami unveiled a photograph featuring a previously unseen, all-black component for the Apple Vision headset. The image displays the left power headband and audio pod, complete with an attached cable, specifically designed for the Vision Pro. This particular component boasts a unique, never-before-seen dark surface finish, setting it apart from the aesthetics of the commercially available Vision Pro.
Previously, Kosutami had divulged information indicating that Apple is in the process of testing a lighter and thinner mixed reality headset, tentatively named the 'Vision Air.' This new model is expected to feature a 'Midnight' color scheme. To achieve a reduction in weight, Apple plans to incorporate titanium into the design while maintaining an aluminum casing. The 'Vision Air' will also sport a deep blue-black coating, adding to its distinctive appearance.
Furthermore, a notable difference has been observed in the connector design. While the current Vision Pro model utilizes a 12-pin connector, the newly revealed cable in the photograph features only 8 pins. This discrepancy could suggest that Apple is reengineering the external battery system for its upcoming headsets.
Earlier speculations in the market had widely anticipated the release of a budget-friendly 'Vision Air' headset, alongside a second-generation Vision Pro. However, these expectations took a turn when Bloomberg reported in October of this year that Apple has temporarily halted all development work on the Vision headset line. Instead, the tech giant is reportedly intensifying its efforts in smart glasses projects that integrate artificial intelligence technology.
