Li Xiaolong, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Huawei's Terminal Business Group (BG), shared on his social media that he and his colleagues have successfully tested Huawei's offline communication feature aboard an airplane. This breakthrough allows passengers to send messages and make phone calls freely while in the air. Traditionally, due to the robust ground signal coverage provided by Chinese carriers, there were few practical scenarios where this feature would be necessary. However, the tested feature is likely Huawei's Changlian offline communication capability, which remains functional even when a network connection is available.

This innovative feature enables users to receive messages or calls from nearby contacts without requiring an internet connection. Users can then reply within 24 hours. When used on the Mate 80 series, this mode allows for a maximum chat and call distance of up to 7 kilometers, with the range extending to approximately 1 kilometer in open, unobstructed, and flat environments.

It's important to note that this feature is exclusively supported on select device models running HarmonyOS 6 or later versions. For it to work, both parties involved in the communication must be Changlian contacts and within the perceivable range of StarFlash when either or both are offline. When a device goes offline, a prompt will appear at the top of the screen, facilitating seamless communication. Supported device models include the Mate 80 series, Mate X7 series, and other compatible devices.
