The Indian Department of Telecommunications has issued directives to eight prominent communication app developers, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal. These directives mandate that these platforms must ensure an uninterrupted link between their services and the SIM cards utilized during user registration within a 90-day timeframe. Should the corresponding SIM card not be inserted into the user's device, the service will be promptly suspended. In cases where users switch SIM cards, they are required to re-verify their identity and update the binding; failure to do so will result in the inability to continue using the service. This initiative is designed to deter the misuse of telecom resources for online fraud and to enhance the security of telecom networks. For web-based services, a logout every 6 hours will be mandatory, along with the provision of a QR code for re-binding purposes. It's worth noting that Indian banks and UPI apps have already adopted similar measures.
