The State Administration for Market Regulation has recently given its approval and published two national standards pertaining to smart home devices. These standards are titled "Technical Requirements and Evaluation for the Intelligence Level of Smart Home Devices - Part 1: General Requirements" (GB/T 28219.1—2025) and "Application Scenarios for Smart Home Devices - Part 1: General Requirements" (GB/T 46505.1—2025). Implementation of these standards is slated to commence on May 1, 2026. For the first time, these new national standards establish a classification system for the intelligence level of smart home devices, encompassing five distinct tiers: from L1 (Basic Intelligence) to L5 (Advanced Intelligence). This classification will enable consumers to have a clearer understanding of the intelligence capabilities of products and prevent them from falling prey to 'pseudo-intelligent' offerings.
