Samsung SDI Reportedly Clinches KRW 3 Trillion Order for Tesla's Energy Storage System Batteries

Samsung SDI is rumored to have bagged an order valued at KRW 3 trillion (roughly RMB 14.91 billion) to supply batteries for Tesla's energy storage systems over the next three years. Nevertheless, Samsung SDI clarified that no final decision has been made on this deal yet, and Tesla has remained silent in response to inquiries for comments. Lately, Samsung SDI has been actively advancing in the battery arena: On April 1, the company declared the commencement of mass production for its 4695 cylindrical batteries; on June 18, it embarked on the validation process for dry electrode technology; it also has intentions to collaborate with General Motors in constructing a battery factory in the United States and is contemplating upgrading certain facilities to manufacture lithium iron phosphate batteries. Moreover, Samsung SDI has inked a deal with Hyundai Kia to co-develop high-performance batteries tailored specifically for robotic applications.
