The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has decided to revoke the class-action antitrust lawsuit designation that was leveled against Apple's App Store back in 2011, signaling a significant legal triumph for Apple in this particular matter. The lawsuit was originally brought forth by a group of users in 2011, who contended that Apple had established a monopoly over the iPhone app ecosystem by restricting users from downloading apps from sources other than the App Store.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers revoked the class-action status on the basis that the plaintiffs were unable to present a credible model that could demonstrate the harm and damages suffered by all members of the class. The plaintiffs had sought to have the lawsuit recognized as a class action; however, their attempts were undermined by substantial flaws in the expert testimony provided. These flaws rendered the data unreliable and ultimately led to the revocation of the class-action status. As a result, any user intending to pursue legal action against Apple over this matter will now be required to initiate an individual lawsuit.
