Apple is in the process of creating a groundbreaking framework known as AppMigrationKit. This innovative framework is designed to break down the data barriers that currently exist between the iOS and Android ecosystems, streamlining the data migration process for third-party apps in the process. At present, the framework is still in the developmental stage and will be compatible with iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, and subsequent versions. However, it's important to note that its functionality is confined to data migration with non-Apple platforms. It does not extend to iOS apps running on visionOS or Macs that are powered by Apple chips.

For developers keen on integrating this framework into their apps, they will be required to craft an app extension that conforms to the AppMigrationExtension protocol. When setting up a new device, app data that has been integrated with this framework will be automatically bundled and migrated. Furthermore, once the data transmission is finalized, users will have the option to import additional data from the cloud.

Apple is diligently working on system-level adaptations to ensure seamless integration. As part of these efforts, the iOS system will incorporate a 'Transfer to Android' option within the 'Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone' menu. It is anticipated that the Android system will reciprocate by offering a 'Transfer to iPhone' function, thereby facilitating bidirectional data interoperability between the two platforms.
