On October 22, 2025, the iPhone Air (China version) made its official debut, with prices starting at 7,999 yuan. This launch signifies that China's smartphone market has stepped into the eSIM age. This particular iPhone model exclusively supports eSIM technology and doesn't have a slot for physical SIM cards. All three major Chinese telecom operators, namely China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, offer eSIM services.
Digital blogger 'Tech Xin Yi' conducted tests and discovered that operators can fully activate the eSIM simply by scanning the phone's IMEI number. However, during the commercial trial phase, users are required to bring valid identification documents and visit the operators' offline business offices in person to complete the eSIM activation process.
