In line with a joint announcement issued by four departments, the Information and Communication Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has launched a governance campaign to tackle problems like the illicit and unauthorized gathering and utilization of personal data by smart terminal devices. After third - party testing agencies carried out spot checks, it came to light that 20 smart terminal devices were engaging in practices that violate user rights. The relevant smart terminal manufacturers have been duly informed and are required to make rectifications in compliance with pertinent regulations. Any manufacturer that fails to carry out the rectifications effectively will face legal and regulatory actions.
