On October 13, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology gave the official green light to the three major telecom carriers, allowing them to carry out commercial trials for eSIM-enabled mobile phones. China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Telecom have rolled out eSIM mobile services one after another, with the services spanning across 31 provinces and municipalities nationwide. At present, customers are required to present valid identification documents when visiting offline business outlets to complete the necessary procedures. Online activation services are not available at this stage. Although this setup means that eSIM hasn't fully realized its potential for maximum convenience, the technology still brings fresh experiences to users. For instance, it enables activation without the need for a physical SIM card and allows for seamless interoperability across different devices.
