On the evening of October 13, 2025, China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Telecom officially announced that they had received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to conduct commercial trials of eSIM mobile phone services, marking China's entry into the 'card-free era' of telecommunications. During the commercial trial period, the three operators will not offer online applications, and users will need to visit business offices in person with their eSIM-compatible phones to activate the service. Currently, the Apple iPhone Air is set to begin pre-orders on October 17 and officially launch on October 22, with eSIM-compatible phones from manufacturers such as Huawei and OPPO also set to be released soon.
