Samsung has unveiled that its upcoming smartwatch will be the first of its kind to feature a detection capability for left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD). LVSD represents a critical cardiovascular condition, responsible for roughly half of all heart failure incidents. Its mortality rate surpasses that of certain cancers, underscoring the importance of early diagnosis in mitigating fatalities and reducing hospital admissions. This innovative function has received certification from the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. It facilitates non-invasive screening by analyzing ECG data through advanced AI algorithms. Leveraging a specialized algorithm developed by a South Korean medical AI startup, the smartwatch can accurately identify LVSD using single-lead ECG signals. Clinical trials have demonstrated that this cutting-edge technology enables earlier detection compared to conventional diagnostic approaches.
