During the Meta Connect conference held this month, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, introduced the inaugural pair of smart glasses with display functionality—the Meta Ray-Ban Display. Nevertheless, it's important to note that this product does not qualify as a genuine augmented reality (AR) device. Mark Gurman, a journalist from Bloomberg, characterized it as the first truly outstanding pair of smart glasses that consumers are actually inclined to wear, and disclosed that the product is currently being marketed at a financial loss. Furthermore, Meta is in the process of developing smart glasses equipped with dual lenses and screens, with a planned launch in 2027. The company also intends to roll out authentic holographic AR glasses later in the same year. Over the past ten years, Meta's Extended Reality division has been incurring losses, yet the company persists in channeling funds into this area to cement its foothold in the future computing landscape. Many anticipate that the AR glasses slated for release in 2027 will serve as a testament to the viability of Meta's envisioned 'future of computing'.
