On September 18, Nikkei News reported that Apple has embarked on discussions with its suppliers to initiate the pilot production of foldable iPhones in Taiwan, China. The tech giant has set its sights on achieving mass production in India by the year 2026. Apple is gearing up to unveil a new generation of iPhones in 2026, with an ambitious production target of around 95 million units. This represents a significant surge of over 10% compared to the production volume of the current year. Apple is convinced that the introduction of foldable models is pivotal to realizing this objective.

Insider sources disclosed that Apple plans to tap into the engineering expertise and robust industrial ecosystem of its suppliers in Taiwan. The goal is to set up a small-scale pilot production line aimed at conducting equipment tests, fine-tuning parameters, and optimizing the manufacturing process. Once the production process is perfected, the same blueprint will be followed in India to commence mass production. At present, suppliers have pinpointed potential locations in northern Taiwan for establishing the pilot production line.
