Recently, significant developments have emerged concerning the issue of SSD failures triggered by Windows 11 security updates. Following a thorough investigation, it has come to light that the primary SSDs affected were those featuring engineering samples—that is, SSDs equipped with pre-production firmware—provided to reviewers for evaluation purposes. In contrast, SSDs available in the retail market remained unaffected. Initially, suspicion fell upon SSDs powered by Phison controllers as the potential source of the problem. However, after conducting extensive self-testing spanning thousands of hours, Phison Electronics was unable to replicate the issue. Additionally, Microsoft has released a statement asserting that these SSD failures are not attributable to the Windows 11 security update.
