The Shanghai Jinshan District Education Bureau had initially intended to invest 4 million yuan in the procurement of student sports bracelets and associated equipment. The objective was to track students' physical activity data and enhance the scientific approach to physical education teaching. However, on September 1, the project was abruptly terminated due to "significant changes." Previously, 12 district education bureaus in Shanghai, Jinshan included, had collectively envisioned equipping students in the third, sixth, seventh, and tenth grades with sports bracelets, with a combined budget of approximately 140 million yuan. These bracelets were designed to monitor heart rates, log exercise data, and aid in educational management, garnering substantial public interest. Using Jiading District as an illustration, it had planned to allocate roughly 24.8 million yuan to purchase 108,800 sets of sports bracelets and corresponding accessories, with an average procurement cost of no more than 229 yuan per set. The aim was to achieve universal coverage for all students within a three-year period.
