A research team led by Jiang Kaichun is pioneering the development of a micro turbine engine designed to drastically enhance the endurance of drones and propel the growth of the low-altitude economy. This engine, fueled by clean energy sources including green methanol, ammonia, or hydrogen, aims for zero carbon emissions and is anticipated to extend the flight duration of drones to a remarkable 20 to 30 hours, all while maintaining a takeoff weight of approximately 200 kilograms. Already, this cutting-edge technology has garnered significant interest from various enterprises, and a test flight is scheduled to take place in Jiaxing by the year's end. Looking ahead, this innovative engine is poised for widespread application in urban air mobility, environmental monitoring, disaster warning, and numerous other sectors.
