Google has launched its September 2026 Android Drop, bringing five new features to the broader Android ecosystem — and the headliner is a capability that requires no hardware at all. Starting this week, Android 16 users can ask Gemini to remember where they left their passport, spare keys, or gaming controller, and Gemini will save that location to a new Remembered tab inside Find Hub. The five features collectively span Android versions from Android 9 through Android 17, meaning readers on older but still-active hardware will gain access to at least some of the update.
Until now, Find Hub's usefulness depended almost entirely on hardware: a Bluetooth tracker, a Google-connected device, or a UWB tag attached to the thing you wanted to find. The September update breaks that hardware dependency. Users can tell Gemini, "Hey Google, remember in Find Hub that I put my passport in my bedroom drawer," and optionally attach a photo. That location note is saved to a new Remembered tab inside Find Hub, where it can be retrieved either by browsing the tab directly or by asking Gemini a follow-up voice query.

The practical breadth of this is wider than the passport example suggests. Spare keys, medication bottles, seasonal items stored in a garage, chargers that migrate around a home, controllers, passports — anything a user wants to mentally offload. Gemini stores the verbal or photographic record and makes it retrievable with the same conversational interface. Apple's Vehicle Motion Cues uses animated dots; Motion Assist uses a customizable bubble. Both use the same underlying sensory-reconciliation principle. The important difference from earlier third-party Android apps (such as KineStop, available since 2018) is that Motion Assist runs at the system level, using Android's dedicated DRAW_MOTION_CUES permission system, which allows the overlay to appear over any app surface — including system settings panels — without the false-positive behavior (remaining active while walking) that plagued app-based workarounds.

The Remembered Items feature stores location metadata — a natural-language description and, optionally, a photo — in Find Hub as a structured note rather than a live location signal. Unlike Bluetooth-based tracker tags (which require the tracker to be within range of an Android device to update location), Remembered Items stores a static record at the moment of input. Where Guided Vision advances beyond earlier accessibility tools like TalkBack's static image description is its conversational and positional guidance component: if the camera is not aimed correctly, Guided Vision provides verbal instructions — "pan left," "center the object" — to help the user reframe the shot. This live, back-and-forth interaction with the camera feed is made possible by Gemini Live's real-time multimodal inference, which processes both the camera stream and voice input simultaneously. Guided Vision is accessible from TalkBack's menu, an Android Accessibility shortcut (a floating icon at the screen edge), or from Gemini App Settings. Google's disclaimer is explicit: Guided Vision can make mistakes and is not intended as a medical device, mobility aid, or substitute for safe-travel guides; it should not be used for navigation or obstacle detection.

Google Messages is now integrating Google Keep, Google's note-taking and list app, directly into the conversation thread. Tapping the + icon inside a conversation surfaces the option to create a new Keep note or attach an existing one; the note renders inline in the thread, and every participant can view, edit, and add to it in real time without leaving Messages.
The feature suits shared grocery lists, vacation planning, meeting notes, and any scenario where a back-and-forth message thread creates friction that a collaboratively editable document eliminates. The Google Keep integration began rolling out September 1 in Google Messages.
Google Messages has also received custom Chat Themes: users can assign a unique background wallpaper — either from Google's library or a personal photo — to any individual conversation.
