Activists worldwide are speaking out to draw attention to the harassment they endure on Meta's platforms. A recent survey by Global Witness, a nonprofit that monitors murders of environmental advocates, revealed that over 90% of land and environmental defenders have experienced some form of work-related online abuse or harassment. Facebook (now Meta) emerged as the most frequently cited platform, followed closely by WhatsApp and Instagram. These incidents of harassment have had profound consequences on the mental health and safety of activists, sparking widespread concern across all sectors of society.
