Effective July 25, 2025, Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, has instituted stringent new guidelines mandating online services to employ "rigorous" age verification procedures. These measures aim to safeguard children from harmful online content, specifically targeting websites and platforms that feature pornography, promote self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders. Leading platforms like Pornhub, Bluesky, Discord, Grindr, Reddit, and X have committed to adhering to these regulations and will enforce stringent age restrictions. To comply, platforms must adopt advanced technical measures, such as facial recognition, to authenticate users' ages, with penalties imposed on violators.
