On July 26, American Airlines officially received its first Airbus SE A321XLR long-range aircraft, but supply chain issues related to a shortage of seats have necessitated the aircraft remaining in Europe. The handover took place in Hamburg, Germany, on Friday. In 2019, the company placed an order for 50 of these aircraft, initially intending to deploy them on transcontinental routes within the United States by the end of this year, with a gradual shift towards international service. Nonetheless, challenges in the seating supply chain have forced the first aircraft to stay in Europe, with the identity of the seat manufacturer remaining undisclosed.
