In Washington, Japan's Chief Trade Negotiator, Akazawa Ryosei, announced that the trade agreement reached between the United States and Japan stipulates a reduction in tariffs on Japanese cars exported to the US. These tariffs will be lowered from 25% to 15%, marking a decrease of 12.5 percentage points from the current rate of 2.5%. Additionally, he revealed that the general tariffs on Japanese goods imported into the US will similarly be reduced to 15%. It is noteworthy that the agreement excludes defense spending and the 50% tariffs imposed on steel and aluminum products. Japan intends to continue discussions with the US regarding these tariff issues. For Japanese goods that previously had tariffs exceeding 15%, the new tariff rate will not apply. The effective date for the implementation of this new tariff rate has yet to be determined.
