The European Commission has recently dispatched a cautionary letter to Meta Platforms Inc., notifying the company that its paid or consent-based services, which offer users an ad-free experience, necessitate additional modifications to align with the EU's stringent new digital regulations. Previously, Meta incurred a 200 million euro penalty (approximately $232 million) from the EU for breaching relevant regulations. However, according to the European Commission, Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms continue to fall short of meeting the stipulated regulatory requirements. This warning letter heralds a potential resurgence of conflict between Meta and the EU.
