A landmark achievement has been reached in Taonan City, Jilin Province, with the successful production of China's first batch of green methanol. This pioneering project represents the nation's first demonstration of green methanol production through the innovative combination of green hydrogen and biomass gasification, initially boasting an annual capacity of 50,000 tons. This initiative effectively addresses the domestic shortfall in large-scale continuous production technology.
The employed technology eliminates the use of fossil fuels, achieving a remarkable reduction of nearly 70% in carbon emissions compared to conventional processes. Consequently, it is anticipated to annually mitigate approximately 65,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The green methanol produced will be exported to the international market, specifically targeted as a marine fuel.
Upon the full-scale commissioning of the project, the annual production capacity will escalate to 250,000 tons. Additionally, there are plans to commence another project in the second half of the year, aimed at achieving an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons of green methanol and 10,000 tons of green aviation fuel.
