On July 13, sources disclosed that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing had jointly issued a confidential statement affirming the safety of the fuel switch lock mechanism across Boeing aircraft models. The statement emphasized that despite the similarity in the fuel control switch design, including its locking feature, across various Boeing models, the FAA does not perceive this as a safety risk and has not issued any airworthiness directives pertaining to any Boeing aircraft, including the 787. In recent days, Boeing has relayed this FAA notification to airlines, clarifying that no additional safety measures are necessary.
