On the 26th, South Korea's Nuclear Safety and Security Commission granted approval for the decommissioning of Unit 1 of the Gori Nuclear Power Plant. This facility, situated in Busan, ceased operations in 2017 after serving for 40 years. The decommissioning plan, submitted by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., the operator, has been officially endorsed. Given the necessity to construct storage facilities for spent fuel, the entire dismantling process is anticipated to extend over a period of 12 years. Unit 1 holds a significant place in history as South Korea's first commercially operated nuclear reactor.
